Common Facebook Scams and What You Need to Know

Scammers are always at work and it's important to be aware of the latest scam going around to protect yourself and the parish.

Here we'll document common Facebook scams you should be on the lookout for.

Fall 2023

Many Facebook pages have received a direct message similar to the one below. It usually comes from an account that looks legitiamte but isn't. In this case, the account name is "Support Fanpage."

These messages are designed to get you to hesitantly click on the link. The giveaway that this is a scam is the account name and the link. You can always look at the account of anyone who is sending you messages. If it's not verified but claims to be from Facebook, it's likely a scam.

The other giveaway is the link. The URL ends in ".app" and clearly isn't a link to Facebook's website.
